You are enough.

“You are enough.”

If you have ever practiced affirmations, you have most certainly heard this one. And if you spend any time on social media, you know this sentiment is everywhere. But what does it even mean?

Does it mean you have arrived at a place in which you have now done enough? That you have mastered something? That you have grown as far as you are going to grow, and that you can stop now?

We all want to be enough – enough for that partner, enough for that job, enough for that friend group and enough for that team. This aspiration leads to pursuits that are so abstract and situational that it is unclear as to when, if ever, we actually arrive at “enough.” Go ahead and ask yourself – once you got that partner, that job, that friend group, that team…did you suddenly feel like you were enough? And if so, how long did that last?

When it comes to being enough, I think Micheal Herman (2023) said it best:

“It’s not about striving – it’s about letting go.”

Being enough isn’t about achievement, goals, success, or a continued striving toward anything.

No. It is simply who you are. The you that you are is enough, and you do not need to be anything more to be worthy. You are enough just because you are.

I believe this sentiment says, “Go ahead and keep learning, keep growing, keep dreaming – but let go of the idea that you need to achieve something more in order to be worthy. You are enough just as you are.”

When we believe that we are enough, it frees us to accept ourselves just as we are – strengths and flaws – and this empowers us. We vibrate differently when we believe we are enough, and this impacts the things that we attract. When we know our worth and believe that we are enough, we can be unstoppable, and this will bring us everything that this universe intended for us.

So, as corny as it sounds, grab a sticky note, write a note to yourself restating this very basic fact, and stick it on your bathroom mirror. Read it every day. Read it until you believe it. Read it until you vibrate it. Read it until you let go of everything you are striving to be and open yourself to everything that is intended for you.

Because you are enough, and you are worthy – just as you are.

Quote: You are enough.
Note to self: You are enough
